Migrate to SmartBear License Management

Important Notice for ReadyAPI Customers

Starting from ReadyAPI 3.62.0, VirtServer 3.29.0, and TestEngine 1.34.0, SmartBear has deprecated file-based licenses in favor of the ID-based SmartBear License Management (SLM) system. As of October 1, 2025, file-based licenses are no longer issued, activated/deactivated, or supported; all new and updated licenses are managed through SLM. For further information and timelines, refer to the File-Based License End-of-Life Policy page.

This notice is to alert all users that we have phased out this licensing model. You are required to migrate to SmartBear ID-based licensing by September 30, 2025 to avoid disruption of service.

SmartBear ID-based licenses are a new proprietary license management option we started using in ReadyAPI 3.8.1. Also known as SmartBear License Management (SLM), it replaces our current 3rd party license management, putting flexibility, control, and security in your hands. You’ll gain visibility into how licenses are used and release unused licenses to those who need them most. SLM also offers offline support for organizations with restricted networks. See SmartBear ID-based Licenses to learn more about ID-based licensing and SLM.

The migration process involves 5 steps:

  • Identify your readiness status.

  • Address any company information requirements if internal approval is needed.

  • Run any Proof of Concepts needed to ensure it will work in your organization and won't break any processes or pipelines.

  • Identify the users migrating over and make them aware of the license change.

  • Work with SmartBear to get your licenses assigned to the users and converted if they work in private networks.

We have prepared a Readiness Checklist to help you identify where you are in readiness planning.

You can contact your SmartBear Account Representative or SmartBear Support for assistance in getting started.

If license management is managed by another person within your organization, we ask that you communicate this update to them and ask them to contact SmartBear to plan the next steps.
